Voting Rights For People With Disabilities Questioned

With the presidential election coming up, concerns are being raised about whether all people with disabilities should retain the right to vote.

An issue in Minnesota is whether or not adults who are under the care of guardians should be eligible to vote. Currently, these individuals are allowed to vote as long as a judge has determined otherwise. A current lawsuit is arguing that the state’s constitution does not extend the right to vote to those with guardians.

There is a proposal in the Minnesota legislature would require a judge to assess voting eligibility to ensure that no one is being taken advantage of, as there have been cases where votes from people with disabilities have allegedly been influenced by caretakers.

Disability advocates are largely apposed to the restrictions arguing that cases of abuse are rare and do not justify sweeping changes.

Using Humor to Teach Social Skills

Humor = Retention

We believe you learn best when you laugh. By making the classroom experience more comfortable and enjoyable, humor can make teaching and learning more effective, especially for the K12 segment. At Stanfield, we use humor as an integral part of our curricula.

If you as a speaker don’t help your audience to remember your lessons, then you’re wasting everyone’s time. Humor… can help accomplish that needed retention…
