In 30 years of teaching I have never seen anything that deals as effectively with teach the skills of coping with everyday conflicts as the BeCool series.
Dealing with anger is a very challenging task for most people. In this module, your teenage and adult students with special needs will benefit from learning how to respond when confronted by difficult or situations when anger is flying.
BeCool teaches students about the three basic ways we respond to anger: Aggressively (HOT), Passively (COLD) or Assertively (COOL). In each of the video scenarios, children are challenged by a difficult person or situation. Your students will watch as their video peers hesitate and then model three different ways to respond to conflict: Giving Up (COLD), Blowing Up (HOT) or Staying in Control (COOL).
With this BeCool module, you’ll help your students understand why people become angry, how to distinguish fair from unfair anger and, most important, how to recognize when someone’s anger is becoming dangerous (particularly when alcohol or drugs are involved). Your students will learn to identify the negative results of HOT or COLD responses to anger in each of the age-appropriate vignettes. The situations are presented in a high-interest format that will hold your students’ attention. This presentation of real-life situations allows students to see the evolution of the behaviors being studied.
The child who is ‘left behind’ most is the one who leaves school without transition readiness.
