PeopleSmart
Teach your students real-world ways to meet people, make friends, and develop long-term relationships.
What It's About
We all know that social skills are a crucial aspect of any student’s life. Having strong social skills can help them make friends, form connections, and navigate social situations successfully.
The PeopleSmart program is designed to help students differentiate between friends, acquaintances, and strangers. It focuses on social skills that can enrich their lives, make them feel connected, and help them in times of need. The program is divided into two parts – PeopleSmart 1 and PeopleSmart 2. They feature the Stanfield Comedy Players, who are experts in delivering life lessons through humor.
PeopleSmart 1 comprises three chapters that cover essential skills such as “How to Meet People,” “How to Turn an Acquaintance Into a Friend,” and “How to Deepen a Friendship.”
PeopleSmart 2, on the other hand, focuses on trust and gullibility, teaching students “How Not to Mistake Friendliness for Friendship,” “How to Avoid Getting into Trouble with Strangers,” and “How to Be Attractive to the Opposite Gender.” The program is designed to be engaging and interactive, with activities and exercises that reinforce the lessons.
The curriculum includes access to the PeopleSmart videos, along with DateSmart, MoneySmart, SafetySmart, and JobSmart. These materials are suitable for use in the classroom or as standalone teaching tools. The teacher’s guides that come with the program can be a helpful aid, especially for educators who are new to the program.
“Very good, the individuals I worked with loved the videos. These products worked when others did not”
Victor Petillo, Consultant, Glen Allen, VA
What You Will Learn
The PeopleSmart program provides a comprehensive set of modules that break down social interactions into digestible and actionable pieces.
The PeopleSmart program is a six-chapter module that teaches students the skills necessary for socializing effectively. It comprises a range of engaging materials such as videos, quizzes, and role-playing exercises that aim to instill essential social skills.
Perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of the PeopleSmart program is its emphasis on communication skills. Students will learn how to use both verbal and nonverbal communication to convey their wants and needs effectively, while also developing empathy and listening skills that will enable them to better understand others.
These skills are applicable not only in personal relationships, but in all aspects of life, including school, work, and community involvement.
By the end of the program, students will have mastered the art of socializing and will have the confidence they need to navigate social situations effortlessly.
How to Meet People
The first chapter of the PeopleSmart program focuses on building the foundation of socializing: meeting new people. This chapter imparts essential skills like how to initiate a conversation, proper body language, and making a memorable first impression.
It also outlines the benefits of stepping out of one’s comfort zone and taking the initiative to connect with others. Students learn how to overcome the fear of approaching someone and how to start a conversation naturally.
How to Turn an Acquaintance into a Friend
The program’s second chapter centers on how to turn acquaintances into friends. Developing strong friendships is critical in fostering a sense of belonging and community, which is essential for students’ mental well-being.
This chapter teaches students about friendship formation, including common interests and mutual trust. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of empathy and active listening in nurturing friendships.
How to Deepen a Friendship
This module involves understanding the key elements of a strong friendship, such as trust, respect, and communication, and figuring out how to cultivate these qualities in their own relationships.
They’ll also learn how to identify and overcome common obstacles to building deeper friendships, such as fear of rejection or misunderstanding social cues.
How to Mistake Friendliness for a Friendship
Many students struggle with knowing how to differentiate between someone who is simply being polite and someone who genuinely wants to be their friend.
Through a combination of practical exercises and engaging classroom discussions, the PeopleSmart program helps students develop the nuanced social skills they need to navigate these situations with confidence.
How to Be Attractive
Of course, building strong relationships isn’t just about finding the right people – it’s also about being the right person. That’s why the PeopleSmart program also focuses on teaching students how to be attractive, both in terms of their personality and their behavior.
Students will learn how to project a positive self-image, communicate effectively, and cultivate behaviors and attitudes that make them more appealing to others.
