Volume 1: Personal Management

The purpose of this section is to guide students in developing an understanding of their own strengths, interests, and goals. This forms a strong personal foundation upon which they will build life skills. They will practice positive regard for themselves and others, and apply decision-making skills to effectively determine their future.

Lessons in this unit focus on personal and career exploration. Students not only learn about themselves, but also about many careers. Students complete a variety of activities and informal assessments to analyze their interests and abilities, then match these to information gathered about careers. After narrowing their career choices, students complete career research activities, such as job shadowing. With information from these activities, students will be ready to make a final career choice.

This unit gives students information about their career preparation options during and after high school. These options include vocational training in high school, on-the-job training, apprenticeships, community college, and four-year college programs.

This unit shows students a process to determine their goals for the future and helps them develop a plan to meet these goals. Goal topics may include: career, employment, education or training, personal health, leisure, financial, and independent living.
